A Rampage reunion – and Mavericks too!

This Tuesday’s anticipated game between Jeffersonville and Floyd Central will also be a reunion of sorts for many of the players on both teams.

Red Devils’ senior captain, Lucas Rigsby, said he is very much looking forward to the game, which will see him and striker Gavin Leavell face off against a number of Floyd Central players who were their team mates on Southern Indiana United’s State Challenge Cup winning team, the Rampage, in 2007.

Those among the Highlander squad that played on that team include Jacob Holland, Will Spiller, Jerad Clark, Chris Grindrod and Levi Johnson.

“It’s going to be a great game and I’ve played with half of them, so we know each other quite well,” said Rigsby, speaking after their matchup with Providence on Saturday.

In fact, Rigsby (now with Javanon), had just stepped off the field having played against another three members of that particular U14 team – twins Trent and Wade Brown, and Ben Orem – while a fourth, Josh Maled was out due to injury.

Tuesday’s matchup will also see the involvement of many members of SIU’s Mavericks team, who reached the final of the Indiana State Challenge Cup the following year in 2008.

From Jeffersonville, they include Will Czerwonka, Brian Fisher, Vincent Straight, Jordan Vejar and Cauldon Feldhous, while on Floyd Central they comprise Cray Trimble, Matthew Richmer, Tyler Hines and Danny Laird.

That’s 16 players in total from the two state championship final squads who are part of the Highlander and Red Devil set-ups, and that doesn’t include others from both schools who have played for SIU over the years.

Should make for an interesting evening!
