There were many disappointed players when the much anticipated Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program Showcase in Alabama was cancelled at the weekend due to inclement weather.
Among those from the area who travelled to Decatur to represent Indiana ODP were Jordan Reger (’97 girls), Logan Rauck, Matthew Jerrell, Zack Adamec (all ’97 boys), Sean Brown and Benjamin Rhoads (both ’98 boys).
Representing Kentucky ODP were Jeffersonville’s Brian Fischer and Skyler Davis (’95 boys), New Albany’s Brandy Orth Becker (’95 girls), and Sellersburg’s Hayley Anderson (’97 girls).
Unfortunately, after making the journey for Friday’s planned start, they all had to turn round the following morning and head home without kicking a ball. The event will not be rescheduled.
The road began for the players last November when they attended tryouts with hundreds of other talented players. They have now made phase three of the program — state team training — which runs from March to June. From this panel, the ultimate state team to attend regional camp will be determined.
The ODP identifies and develops youth players to represent their state, region, and country in soccer competitions. It also provides them with confidence and ideas to solve problems the game presents them, and gives them opportunities for gradual growth and advancement.
