Busy weekend of soccer

 

U.S. striker Abby Wambach (pictured left) will be hoping to bag some vital goals during the FIFA Women's World Cup, which kicks off in Germany on Sunday.

It’s a busy weekend of soccer, both on local and international fronts. The U.S. Youth Soccer Midwest Region II Championships take place in Appleton, Wisconsin, and we’ll keep you posted on all the letest developments there.

Meanwhile, a much anticipated CONCACAF Gold Cup final between the U.S. and Mexico takes place at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on Saturday evening (Coverage starts 8.30 p.m. ET on Fox Soccer Channel.)

The FIFA Women’s World Cup kicks off in Germany this Sunday, with the United States in action against North Korea on Tuesday. The three week long tournament will be screened on ESPN.

And there’s also the ongoing FIFA U17 World Cup in Mexico, where a win for the U.S against New Zealand tomorrow (ESPNU/ESPN 3, 7 p.m. ET) will see them progress to the last 16.
