Tough work this Labor weekend!

New Albany native Brandy Orth Becker and her Assumption team mates participate in the prestigious Lady Eagle Invitational in Zionsville this weekend

A couple of good high school tournaments with local interest take place this expectedly hot Labor Day weekend.

Firstly, there’s the Hoosier Cup in Bloomington, Indiana, featuring Jeffersonville and Providence boys.

The Pioneers will take on Gibson Southern, Heritage Christian and Edgewood, while the Red Devils (check out our feature on Jeff best mates Cauldon Feldhaus and Acy Huffman)  play Jasper, Ryle (Ky.) and Marion. Games take place today and tomorrow at Karst Park and fields at Blomington North and Edgewood .

Secondly, the Lady Eagle Invitational, considered one of the most prestigious high school girls’ tournaments in the region, kicks off at hosts Zionsville Community HS’s multipurpose stadium and at ZYSA.

Louisville  teams  Sacred Heart and Assumption will participate alongside the likes of  Strongsville of Ohio, ranked No. 1 in the nation in the  ESPN Rise Powerade Top 50 Pre-Season Poll; Evansville Memorial (ranked No. 13 in the same poll); and Indiana 2010 state finalists Columbus North.
